Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of helping kids learn how to understand and manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, and make good choices. SEL teaches life skills that help students succeed in school and in life.

The 5 Core SEL Skills 

  1. Self-Awareness
    Understanding your feelings, strengths, and challenges
    “I know I’m feeling frustrated, and that’s okay.”
     
  2. Self-Management
    Managing emotions and behaviors in healthy ways
    Taking deep breaths, calming down, staying focused
     
  3. Social Awareness
    Understanding others’ feelings and perspectives
    Showing empathy, kindness, and respect
     
  4. Relationship Skills
    Building and maintaining positive relationships
    Communicating, listening, solving conflicts, teamwork
     
  5. Responsible Decision-Making
    Making safe, thoughtful, and respectful choices
    Thinking about consequences before acting
